Tech Challenged Toni's Blog Idea One

This is an easy idea I thought I might try, I thought I would have my reading students use Google Earth to locate and to explore places as we are reading about them.  We could do this with read alouds and book groups.  This would be a good link to social studies as we explore regions of the United States.

  1. I like the idea of having students look up places on google earth. I may have to steal this idea from you to use with my students.

  2. Yes, I have used Google Earth to explore locations with my students as well. For example, India, Hong Kong, Washington DC, and of course St. Albans, VT.

  3. Hi Toni,

I can think of multiple applications for this in my U.S. History and Senior Civics courses. One of the hardest things for students to do is locate current events around the globe and I feel it would provide a context when they were studying an event or place. Thanks for reminding me of this cool google tool.

  4. I am going to use google earth for social studies as well. I can do it for state reports so they can actually see what their state looks like as well as other continents. I think the kids will love it!

  5. Toni, this is a great idea! So often the students are reading and learning about different places and it would be more meaningful for the students to see and explore it on Goggle Earth. I really hope to use this application more with my students.
